Story

Behind the creation of the microbrewery, lies bits and pieces of the history of bootlegging in St-Pancrace Bay, as each beer is linked to a legend of the North Shore. It’s up to everyone to have fun sorting out what’s real and what’s not about those stories!

Alcohol smuggling

The St. Lawrence River was the theatre of alcohol smuggling. In a bay located between Baie-Comeau and Franquelin, a customs vessel intercepted the Aileen McDonald, a ship that belonged to a well-known bootlegger. Panicked, the henchmen tossed the cargo overboard, which scattered in the current. (Source: Thivierge, N. & Gagnon, B. (1992).

This story inspired the name and logo of the craft brewery—a barrel floating in St-Pancrace Bay.

1932

First St-Pancrace beer

The first St-Pancrace beer was born: a Belgian-inspired white beer home-brewed in Pointe-Lebel. The brewers’ entourage loved it so much that the idea of founding a North Shore craft brewery emerged. This beer, named Uapishka, remains the most popular brew.

2012

Microbrewery Opening

Opening of St-Pancrace at Place LaSalle. The population of Baie-Comeau and the North Shore responded to the invitation. This marked the beginning of a lasting love story! The beers were temporarily brewed at Pit Caribou, using equipment the St-Pancrace would later acquire.

2013

Regional Distribution

2014

Flavours of northern

Opening of the factory

Opening of the factory on Comeau Boulevard to meet growing demand. The brand image evolved to highlight this major development. Production capacity increased allowing distribution of St-Pancrace beers for the first time beyond the North Shore region.

2017

Bottle to can

Transition to the aluminum can, a format perfectly adapted to the North Shore territory. Setting up the cellar; a room where beers slowly mature in oak barrels. This led to the creation of the “Cuvée territoire.”

Contrebande d'Alcool

2014

Saveurs du terroir
